ISCC Recognizes Chiefs’ Baseball Players

Waubonsee Community College's baseball team had seven players recognized by the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) for their performances this past spring on the field. Chiefs' center fielder Carter Wardell was named to the All-ISCC First Team, while pitchers Brendan Lawry, Frank Quinn, Alijah Acevedo and John Kruzwicki, along with second baseman Dante Maietta and first baseman Mason Barnick were each selected All-ISCC Second Team.

Wardell, a sophomore from Metea Valley High School, batted .385 in conference action with a .543 on-base percentage before an injury ended his season the third week of April. A left-handed pitcher from Lyons Township High School, Lawry led Waubonsee with a 4-1 record and a 4.32 earned-run-average (ERA) over 41 and two-thirds innings pitched. Quinn, a 6'6" right-hander from Marist High School, earned three wins on the mound for the Chiefs while striking out 33 hitters in 36 innings pitched.

A left-handed pitcher from Kaneland High School, Acevedo posted a 1.35 ERA while limiting opposing hitters to an .091 batting average in a relief role. Kruzwicki, a freshman pitcher from Sandwich High School, made 10 relief appearances on the season, posting a 1.85 ERA in ISCC play.
