Going back to Indiana

Going back to Indiana

(Sugar Grove, IL) – Although he wasn't even born yet in 1971 when the Jackson 5 released their hit song titled "Going Back to Indiana," Waubonsee Community College's men's basketball head coach Lance Robinson just might consider adopting the tune for this coming weekend. The Danville, Indiana native is returning home this coming Saturday, December 3, when he brings his Chiefs (7-1), currently ranked 12th among NJCAA Division II teams, to the Hoosier state to take on Indiana Elite Preparatory Academy. Tip-off for the contest is set for 2:45 p.m. (EDT) at Danville Community High School where Robinson was a standout player for the Warriors.

Robinson played on the varsity basketball team all four years at Danville, and was named All-State his junior and senior seasons. He was also a three-time All-Metro and All-Conference selection, and was the Warriors' Team MVP his last two years. Robinson then helped lead NCAA Division III affiliate Aurora (IL) University to three Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) titles and four NCAA Tournament berths as the Spartans' point guard. His senior season he was named the NACC Player of the Year, a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-Midwest Region First Teamer and a D3hoops.com All-Midwest Region Third Teamer.

Coach Robinson served as Aurora's assistant coach for six years before taking over the program in 2016. He was named the 2017-2018 NACC Coach of the Year, becoming the first person ever to earn both that honor and the NACC Player of the Year Award. As a matter of fact, he has never been a part of a sub .500 team at the collegiate level. Robinson's teams have won 20 or more games eight times, have captured four regular season conference titles and earned six NCAA Tournament berths. Overall as a player and coach, he has been on the winning side 298 times heading into Saturday's contest. Robinson is in his fourth season at Waubonsee where his Chiefs' teams have won 70 percent of their games during his tenure.
