Chiefs finish 2nd at ISCC match #5

(Mount Prospect, IL) - Waubonsee Community College's Men's Golf team finished two shots back of the College of Lake County to place second at the fifth Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) match of the season. Baring a monumental collapse in the final ISCC match, the victory likely assures the Lancers of the conference title. Lake County will enter that last match, held on their home turf of Pine Meadows Golf Course in Mundelein on September 30, with a two-point lead on the Chiefs in the team standings. The Lancers currently have seven points with three first-place finishes, while the Chiefs have nine points with two first-place finishes.

At the Mount Prospect Golf Course the Chiefs posted a team total of 328. Moraine Valley Community College was third with a score of 339, Elgin Community College was fourth carding a total of 360, and the host school Oakton Community College placed fifth with a tally of 380. Despite windy and rainy conditions, Waubonsee's Austen Velazquez topped the leaderboard, firing a 3-over par 73 to grab medalist honors for the second time this season. Lake County's Trevor Brandon was a distant second, five strokes behind Velazquez, while the Lancers' usual leader Konnor Kininmouth faltered on the back nine scoring a 44 to finish with an 81 overall. For Waubonsee Ben Gorski finished with an 80, Tony LoPresti carded an 85, Kade Witt tallied a 90 and Branson Vahl ended his round with a 93 to round out the Chiefs' participants.
