Chiefs battle SVCC in home opener

(Aurora, IL) - On a relatively warm and windy afternoon Waubonsee Community College's Men's Tennis team hosted Sauk Valley Community College in their home opener at the Washington Park Tennis Courts on Aurora's far west side. The short-handed Chiefs fell 6-3 to the Skyhawks, although they won three of the six matches that were played. Waubonsee's Briggs Kremski and Leo Barzi  each won their singles matches and then teamed up to win their number two doubles match as well. With just four players, Waubonsee had to default at number five and six singles, and number three doubles.

Kremski downed Zach Wallace 6-1 and 6-4 to win their number three singles match-up and get the Chiefs on the board. Barzi then followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at number four singles. The duo later dispatched Wallace and Jacob Terveer in the number two doubles match 6-3 and 6-3. The Skyhawks prevailed in the other three matches played on the day to secure the team win. Preston Engel topped Waubonsee's Bennet Piotrowski 6-3, 6-3 at number one singles. The Chiefs' Greyson Piotrowski dropped a close match at number two singles to Daniel Ferguson 6-4 and 6-4. Engel and Ferguson then teamed up to defeat the Piotrowski brothers 6-2 and 6-3 at number one singles.

Waubonsee is set to play again this Friday, April 2 when they host the College of DuPage beginning at 2:00 p.m. (CDT).
