Cross Country competes at Ranger Open

(Parkside, WI.)- Waubonsee Community College's Men's and Women's Cross Country runners competed at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside's Ranger Open on Saturday, October 1. Coach Eric Baron's crew finished fifth as a team in the men's race with 136 points, while the Chiefs did not qualify in the team scoring for the women's race with four runners participating. As he has done all season long Logan Cunz paced Waubonsee's men by placing 18th in the team scoring and 27th overall with a time of 29:41. Jacob Weissensel covered the 8K course in a time of 31:13 to finish 25th in the scoring and 43rd overall among runners representing nine colleges. Waubonsee's Dominic Fiedler crossed the finish line in 54th place, while Owen Kroeyr was 59th and Nicholas Escamilla came in 62nd overall to account for the Chiefs' scoring runners. Nathaniel Lundquist placed 65th, Clayton Burnett was 67th and Joshua Branstad ended up 68th to round out the Chiefs' participants. UW-Parkside won the race with a perfect score of 15 to easily out run Carthage (WI) College's score of 69. The Rangers' Uriah Aili won the men's race with a time of 26:23, edging out teammate Ramon Romero by three seconds.

In the women's 5K race Marina Mercado placed 33rd overall to lead the Chiefs. America Chavez finished 36th, while Payton Heiden came in 38th and Abbigail Placido was 43rd. The University of Milwaukee took the team title with 27 points as the host school UW-Parkside placed second with a score of 35. The Rangers' Katja Bauerle easily won the women's race by turning in a time of 22:23 to finish 36 seconds ahead of the second place runner. The Chiefs are not scheduled to compete again until the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Meet on Saturday, October 22 at Moraine Valley Community College in south suburban Palos Hills.
