Bielskis named Region 4 Player of the Week

Waubonsee Community College's Annika Bielskis was named the Region 4 Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second week of December. The sophomore from Winnebago High School averaged 20 points per game while nailing 19 three-point baskets over the Chiefs' three games. Included in that total was a school single-game mark of eight long balls on December 12 in a 77-65 loss to Bryant & Stratton College from Wisconsin. The 5'6" guard finished with 24 points in that game and also grabbed six rebounds.

Bielskis eclipsed the Chiefs' mark of seven long-range baskets, which had previously been done three times. Brenda Morris nailed seven threes in 1997 versus Joliet Junior College, Sarah Grams equaled that mark in 2015 against Monroe (NY) Community College at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament, and Melia Perry duplicated it in 2021 in a lopsided win over Illinois Valley Community College.

On Thursday, December 14 Bielskis connected on six more shots from beyond the arc on the way to scoring 20 points in Waubonsee' 84-49 trouncing of Judson University's Junior Varsity. On Saturday, December 16 she continued her hot shooting by drilling five more treys while snagging four rebounds in a 67-52 loss at Black Hawk College in Moline. Bielskis finished the week 19 of 29 (66 percent) from three-point range. On the season she is averaging 10.6 points per contest, shooting 32.7 percent from long range with a team-leading 32 three-point baskets.
