McPherson twins provide one-two punch in win at MVCC

(Palos Hills, IL) - Waubonsee Community College's women's volleyball team improved to 4-2 overall on the season with a three games to one victory over Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) foe Moraine Valley Community College. The Chiefs took game one 25-15 and then grabbed a commanding two games to none advantage by holding off the Cyclones to win game two 25-21. Moraine Valley then pulled out a 27-25 triumph in the third game to stay alive. However, Waubonsee secured the match by taking the fourth game 25-21 to move to 1-1 in ISCC play.

As she has done throughout much of the season thus far, Olivia McPherson paced the Chiefs' attack as she booked 22 kills to go along with recording 19 digs. The 5'5" freshman from Aurora West High School has booked 97 kills in the Chiefs' first six matches, averaging 4.62 kills per set played, placing her fifth nationally among NJCAA Division II players in that category. Her twin sister Kiara McPherson was credited with 43 assists, while also making 14 digs and six kills of her own. On the season, the Chiefs' setter has tallied 210 assists for an average of 10.0 per set, ranking her ninth nationally in assists per set. Sophomore libero Lydia Sabanish registered 26 digs in the match, and is currently 15th nationally with a 5.61 digs per set average. The Chiefs' Evelyn Martin also added 15 kills and two blocks, and Maddie Mueller registered eight kills, three aces and 14 digs in the winning cause.
