(Sugar Grove, IL) - Waubonsee Community College's Women's Volleyball team improved to 8-4 overall on the 2021 season with a convincing three-game sweep over Bryant & Stratton College from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Chiefs cruised to a 25-12 win in the opening game, before holding off the Bobcats in game two for a 25-20 victory. Waubonsee completed the sweep by leading the entire way to take game three 25-15. Prior to the match the Chiefs' sophomores, playing in their final regular season home game, were briefly recognized for their contributions to the program.

With an early Spring rain falling outside, the Chiefs stormed out of the gate to grab a quick 7-0 lead in game one. Waubonsee extended its advantage to 11-3 on an ace by Jessica Havernick, and led 16-5 after Claire Sweeney registered a resounding solo block. A few minutes later Sweeney teamed up with Maddie Mueller for another block to give Waubonsee game point. The Bobcats tallied the initial two points of the second game, which remained closely contested early on. With left-hander Larkin O'Donnell serving, the Chiefs scored three straight points to pull ahead 10-7. Bryant & Stratton responded to take a one point lead before Waubonsee's Olivia McPherson booked a back row spike to tie things at 11-all. A moment later Sweeney recorded a booming kill and Lydia Sabanish served up an ace to put the Chiefs in front and swing the momentum in their favor. Not long after that McPherson registered a thunderous kill from the left side to make it 18-13 prompting a Bryant & Stratton timeout. When play resumed the Bobcats were never able to get closer than four points the rest of the way. Sweeney finished off the game with a kill from the center of the net to give Waubonsee a two games to none lead. Waubonsee snagged an early 8-3 lead in the third game highlighted by a pair of aces by Kaylee Read. From there the Chiefs gradually pulled away by taking advantage of several return errors by the Bobcats. With Read again serving the Chiefs ran off three straight points to take a 23-13 lead. A Bryant & Stratton service error and a return that went out of bounds secured the final two points for Waubonsee.
