Women's Tennis among top Academic Teams of the Year

(Charlotte, NC) - The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) recently announced the Academic Teams of the Year for 2019-2020. Waubonsee Community College's Women's Tennis squad tied for second nationally among all NJCAA women's tennis teams with a collective 3.81 grade-point-average (GPA). Coach Douglas Passett's Chiefs tied with Coastal Alabama Community College and trailed only East Central (MS) Community College's 3.83 GPA. Team members included freshmen Hailey Wilcox from Geneva, Elizabeth Egerman from Maple Park, Pauline Schallmo and Lauren Weber from Oswego; along with sophomore's Valerie Schallmo from Oswego and Katelyn Biard from Elburn.  

Additionally, five other Chiefs' teams were recognized for their collective efforts in the classroom, compiling team GPA's over 3.00 for the school year. Coach Steve Kish's Volleyball team finished with a 3.42 GPA, while Coach Rodney Lopez's Baseball crew posted a 3.36 GPA overall. The Women's Cross Country team, under the direction of Coach Abby Ebener, was 24th nationally among all women's cross country teams with a 3.34 GPA. Coach Jim Williams' Women's Basketball squad finished with a 3.10 GPA, and Coach Kristen Corning's Softball team compiled a 3.09 GPA.
