Waubonsee grabs ISCC’s All-Sports Trophy

Waubonsee Community College won the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference's (ISCC) Dave Rowlands All-Sports Trophy for the 2022-2023 school year. It marks the ninth time that Chiefs' Athletics has won the ISCC's prestigious award, with the last time being in 2018-2019. The Chiefs edged out second-place Moraine Valley Community College 42-39 in the total scoring to take home the NHL Stanley Cup-style trophy. Since the inception of the award in 1976, the Chiefs' Athletic Department has perennially finished near the top of the standings for this annual award, which is a measure of the overall quality of each college's sports programs. The conference's eight schools compete in twelve sports with six each for men and women. A point system, awarded in descending order of each school's conference finish, is tallied in each sport. The total points are then determined by the top-8 finishers each school has fielded during the school year to determine the winner.

Waubonsee's softball, women's soccer and baseball teams won ISCC titles during the school year. First-year head coach Joe Spitzzeri guided Waubonsee's softball team to a perfect 10-0 record in league play to capture the conference title for the 10th time in school history. During Spitzzeri's 13 years with the program, the Chiefs have grabbed the crown eight times. Coach Brad Schlemmers' women's soccer squad garnered the ISCC championship for the third straight year and sixth time overall in the annals of the program. Waubonsee has won over 78 percent of its games in conference under Schlemmer's direction the last 11 seasons. Coach Rodney Lopez's baseball team also secured the ISCC title after going 12-2 in conference play to edge out McHenry County College, which finished with an 11-3 record in league action. Waubonsee also tallied third-place finishes in Men's Soccer, Men's Basketball and Women's Basketball.
