Chiefs golfers open ISCC slate

(Bristol, IL.) – Waubonsee Community College golfers opened their 2024 Fall season by hosting the first Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) match. After scorching temperatures the previous day, with a heat index as high as 116 degrees, overnight rains softened the course for the five teams participating at Blackberry Oaks Golf Course in Bristol. Defending ISCC champs Oakton Community College won the day by carding an even 300 team score to easily out distance Elgin Community College's score of 325. Moraine Valley Community College and the College of Lake County tied for third with the Cyclones taking the tie breaker over the Lancers based on the score of the fifth competitor. Waubonsee, in new head coach Dave Stevens' debut, took fifth place with a 368.

Waubonsee was led by sophomore Kyle Ryan's 83 who turned in a 42 at the turn and a 41 over the final nine holes. Justin Winters fired a 39 on the front nine before fading on the back nine on the 90-degree day to finish with an 84. Newcomers Ryder Zeluff and Nicholas Sachse booked a 95 and 106 respectively. Emilee Schultz also competed for the Chiefs. Lake County's Kevin Crow and Oakton's Daniel Allegretti tied for medalist honors by each carding an even par 72. The Cyclones' Ryan Belz was two strokes back of the leaders with a 2-over par 74. Oakton's Matt Smith was one shot behind his teammate with a 75 after firing a 35 on the front nine.

The Chiefs hit the links again on next Wednesday, September 4 when they travel to Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Northbrook for the second ISCC match of the season.
