
Waubonsee Community College's men's and women's basketball teams are set to begin post-season play in the 2025 NJCAA Region 4 Division II Tournament this coming Thursday, February 27. Coach Lance Robinson's men's squad received the number two overall ranking in the region and the top-seed in the Midwest District B bracket. The Chiefs (27-3), co-champions of the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC), are set to host the College of Lake County. Waubonsee pummeled the 15th seeded Lancers (9-18) by 42 points in their first meeting on January 14. However, in their last clash in Grayslake the Lancers took the Chiefs to overtime before Waubonsee prevailed 89-87 on a basket by James Parker in the final seconds of the extra session. Tipoff is set for at 7:00 p.m. this Thursday evening in Erickson Hall Gymnasium on Waubonsee's Sugar Grove campus. The live stream video of the game can be viewed at Fan.Hudl.com/WaubonseeChiefs. The winner will advance to play the winner between seventh seeded Moraine Valley Community College (15-15) and 10th seeded Milwaukee Area (WI.) Technical College (12-17). That semi-final match-up will take place on Sunday, March 2, starting at 4:00 p.m. at Rock Valley College in Rockford. Waubonsee beat the Cyclones 91-81 on January 23 before Moraine Valley won the rematch in Palos Hills 92-88 on February 11, costing Robinson's crew the outright ISCC title. The Chiefs topped Milwaukee Tech 93-80 on November 25 on their home court in their only meeting. The championship game of the men's Distirct B bracket is slated for Saturday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Rockford.
Coach Jim Williams' women's crew is seeded 11th in their Midwest District B bracket and will head to sixth-seeded Kankakee Community College (16-14). The Chiefs (14-15) knocked off the Cavaliers 78-67 on February 8 in Sugar Grove. The teams will square off again this Thursday in Kankakee beginning at 6:00 p.m. The winner will advance to play the winner between third seeded Oakton Community College (26-3) and 14th seeded McHenry County College (10-19) on Saturday, March 1 at 6:00 p.m. at Rock Valley College in Rockford. The Owls downed Waubonsee by 22 points in Des Plaines on January 16 and by 11 points on the Chiefs' court on February 4. The Scots pulled out a last second 70-68 win over Waubonsee on January 22 in Crystal Lake before the Chiefs bounced back to beat McHenry 86-82 on January 30 on their home court. The College of Lake County (24-5) is the top-seed of the womens' District B bracket. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, March 8th at 2:30 p.m. in Rockford.
