Chiefs’ Baseball Field

Waubonsee’s baseball team plays at a picturesque ballpark on the college's Sugar Grove campus adjacent to the softball field. The Chiefs’ home field is partially nestled within the woodlands on the northeast side of the campus, providing a great hitting background later in the spring. Behind the backstop, from dugout to dugout, mature evergreen trees provide a solid backdrop for any fielder. The Chiefs’ diamond is a good mix of being a pitcher’s park and a hitter’s dream. Down the left field line, the outfield fence is 330 feet from home plate. There is plenty of room in left center field as the gap reaches 406 feet at its’ deepest point. Straight away to center is 400 feet before the fence juts in toward the right field foul pole. The right center field alley is an enticing target at 355 feet from home, while it is 328 feet to the right field foul pole. There is also plenty of foul territory from dugout to dugout, and it is a major league distance 50 feet to the backstop behind home plate. An electronic scoreboard with inning-by-inning tallies helps keep fans and players informed. Elevated bleacher seating for spectators is located beyond the end of both dugouts. The sides of the field are not fenced in, allowing fans to bring their favorite lawn chair if they desire. In addition, limited seating exists behind the backstop for a closer view. There are also double bullpens down the left field and right field lines, and behind the third base bleachers are two outdoor hitting tunnels with artificial turf, space for extra hitting stations and the field maintenance building. The entire site is a very short walk from the college's North Parking Lot and easily accessible washrooms in the adjacent Waubonsee Field House.
