Chiefs open 2019 season with romp over Mesabi (MN)

(Auburndale, FL.) - Waubonsee Community College's baseball team opened the 2019 season with a lopsided win over Mesabi Range (MN) Community and Technical College. The Chiefs scored seven times in the bottom of the third on their way to a 14-4 victory in seven innings to begin their week-long Spring Trip in central Florida. Waubonsee smacked 17 hits, stole six bases and scored in every inning from the third frame through the seventh.

Gavin Lovesky and Hogan McIntosh each collected three hits on the day. Lovesky, a sophomore from Lockport High School, drilled a double and a triple while knocking in a run and scoring three times. McIntosh, along with Dylan Jones and Adam Scharf, each drove in a pair of runs as eight different Chiefs registered a run batted in. Scharf, Cody Rose and Dustin Imanaka all finished with two hits apiece as eight of the Chiefs' nine starters had a hit and a run scored. Starting pitcher Luke Fitton struck out seven, walked one and allowed only one hit and one run in four innings of work to pick up the win. The Chiefs are in action again on Wednesday, March 14 when they play Erie (NY) Community College in a doubleheader beginning at 10:00 a.m.
