(River Grove, IL.) - Waubonsee Community College lost for the ninth time in their last 10 games, falling 10-5 at Triton College. The Chiefs' bats were silenced early on and Waubonsee could never quite catch up. After winning their first six games of the season, the Chiefs (7-9) have collectively struggled with consistentcy on defensive, at the plate and on the mound. Against Triton (13-5) all those things were on display at times during the game.

The Trojans scored twice in the bottom of the first off Chiefs' starter Luke Fitton on a misplayed fly ball, a double, a passed ball and a ground out. Waubonsee's big right-hander then had control issues in the second inning, hitting three batters before escaping a bases-loaded jam with only one run allowed. Triton then extended its lead to 5-0 in the third taking advantage of a walk, hit batsman, a base hit and an error.

Meanwhile, Triton pitcher Kevin Nevarez retired the Chiefs' initial 11 batters of the game before issuing back-to-back walks in the fourth. Hogan McIntosh then led off the top of the fifth with a triple to right center field for Waubonsee's first hit of the game. He scored moments later when Frank Dixon laced a single to center to get the Chiefs on the scoreboard. A passed ball and errant pickoff attempt moved Dixon to third, and he then scored on an infield single by Adam Scharf to make it 5-2. However, the Trojans got those two runs back in the bottom half of the inning on a pinch-hit, two-run homer by Jim Filbin.

Justin Sartori led off the top of the sixth by drawing a walk and Garrett Goetz followed with a double to put runners at second and third with no outs. Cameron Steffen then lofted a sacrifice fly to deep center field to score Sartori. Goetz then scored when the very next pitch went to the backstop to pull the Chiefs within 7-4. Once again though the Trojans responded in their half of the inning, stringing together three singles and a sacrifice fly to score twice and push their lead back to five runs. A run-scoring double by Bobby Pierce in the seventh made it 9-5, but the Chiefs stranded runners at second and third. Waubonsee got two runners on base again in the eighth with no one out, but failed to score.

Fitton took the loss, allowing five runs on four hits over three innings pitched. McIntosh and Scharf each finished 2 for 4 to lead Waubonsee's offense. The Chiefs are in action again on Friday, March 29 when they host Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference foe Prairie State College in a single, 9-inning contest beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Sugar Grove.
