Chiefs’ Venditti tabbed NJCAA Pitcher of the Week

(Charlotte, N.C.) - Waubonsee Community College's Tyler Venditti was named the NJCAA Division III Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 6 through 12. The Chiefs' right-handed hurler won a pair of games to help lead Waubonsee to a runner-up finish at the 2019 Region IV Division III Tournament. Waubonsee finished the season 30-23 overall, falling 10-7 to Oakton Community College in the title game.      

On May 9 in the second round of the six-team, double elimination tournament, the 6'2" 210-pound Venditti came on in relief against top-seeded and eighth ranked Rock Valley College. The freshman earned the victory by allowing no earned runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking no one in the Chiefs' 13-11 win. On May 12 with the Chiefs facing elimination, Venditti led the Chiefs to a 6-5 win over Oakton to force a winner-take-all final game. The Geneva High School product went eight and a third innings, scattered five hits, struck out nine and allowed only two earned runs.

On the season Venditti made 14 appearances, primarily as a short reliever. He finished with a 3-3 record, striking out 47 batters in 38 and a third innings of work, an average of 11.03 strikeouts per nine innings.
