(Sugar Grove, IL.) – Playing without two starters for the second straight game did not help their cause. However, Waubonsee Community College came out flat against North Central College's Junior Varsity and fell 69-59 to the Cardinals. Waubonsee trailed most of the game before rallying in the second half to make a game of it. The loss drops Waubonsee to 3-3 overall on the season.

One short sequence midway through the first half could have summed up Waubonsee's night prior to halftime. The Chiefs missed a breakaway lay-up with the Cardinals grabbing the rebound. Literally two seconds later a Waubonsee player stole the ball, but then immediately misfired on a close in shot as well. Another Chiefs' player had an unimpeded tip-in on the opposite side of the rim only to also miss from point blank range as North Central secured the rebound, and then scored at the other end. The Chiefs made 13 turnovers in the first half alone, leading directly to 16 North Central points. The Cardinals were also on fire from long range connecting on nine three-point baskets in 14 attempts while building a 38-21 lead at the break.

Waubonsee came out of the locker room with more defensive intensity and kept chipping away at the Cardinals' lead. The Chiefs gained some momentum when Simeon Strauss got a steal on the visitor's end of the floor and drove the length of the court for a lay-up to get the Chiefs within 48-41 with 9:41 to go. A three-pointer by Elijah Marto from deep in the left corner got Waubonsee within five points at 58-53 with four minutes left. The Cardinals then held off the Chiefs by making seven foul shots down the stretch while turning the ball over just once.

Jymil Toney led Waubonsee with 15 points and five rebounds. Bradlee Mills chipped in with 12 points and six boards, while Jacqui Orr hauled down six rebounds, handed out four assists and made three steals. The Cardinals' bench out scored the Chiefs' reserves 38-16 while North Central finished the game with 13 three-point baskets compared to just two for Waubonsee. The Chiefs are in action again on Monday evening when they host the North Park University Junior Varsity beginning at 7:00 p.m.
