Turnovers Doom Chiefs in loss to Sauk Valley

(Sugar Grove, IL.) – One word could sum up Waubonsee Community College's demise in an 87-60 loss to visiting Sauk Valley Community College. Turnovers. The Chiefs turned the ball over 31 times leading directly to 28 points for the Skyhawks. Waubonsee also shot only 56 percent (10 of 18) from the foul line for the game and connected on just 32 percent (9 of 28) from the field in the second half. It all added up to a lopsided loss that drops the Chiefs' overall record to 4-4 on the season.

Waubonsee jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the opening two minutes of play. However, the lead was short lived as the Skyhawks (3-3) quickly caught the Chiefs and then went ahead 17-16 eight minutes into the game. Sauk Valley eventually secured a 46-36 lead at the break behind 11 points by Trevon Adams and by forcing 18 Chiefs' turnovers. The Skyhawks then took control of the contest by limiting Waubonsee to just 11 points over the initial 11 minutes of the second half. By that point the Skyhawks had built their lead to 69-47 and coasted the rest of the way.

Cory Adams Jr. led Waubonsee with 17 points, including four baskets from beyond the arc. Simeon Strauss added 13 points, Bradlee Mills grabbed eight rebounds, and Jacqui Orr chipped in with five assists and six steals in the loss. Sauk Valley's Adams, who came in averaging 21 points per game, finished with a game-high 28 points to go along with four assists and two steals. The Chiefs are in action again this coming Thursday, November 29 when they host the College of DuPage. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. (CDT) with the women's contest prior to that beginning at 5:00 p.m.
