Chiefs Dismantle Spartans, Move Over .500 mark

(Sugar Grove, IL.) – Waubonsee Community College trounced Aurora University's Junior Varsity 91-53 to move over the .500 mark on the season. The Chiefs (6-5) locked down the Spartans on the defensive end of the floor and put them back on their heels throughout the game. Waubonsee dominated in the paint outscoring Aurora 50-12, controlled the boards with a 44-26 rebounding advantage, and forced 25 Spartans' turnovers which they turned directly into 37 points off of those miscues in the rout.

Waubonsee raced out to a 50-31 lead at halftime by shooting 57 percent (17 of 30) from the floor and 81 percent (13 of 16) from the foul line. Kriston Dixon sparked the Chiefs' balanced offense with 11 points before the break. In stark contrast to their previous two games in which they committed a combined 71 turnovers, including a dubious school-record 38 turnovers in a loss at Milwaukee (WI.) Area Technical College on Saturday, the Chiefs turned the ball over just four times in the first half. Meanwhile, defensively Waubonsee took four offensive charges and did not allow the Spartans any second chance points the entire half. The Spartans never got closer than 18 points the rest of the way as the Chiefs gradually extended their lead throughout the second half. Aurora shot just 22 percent (5 of 22) from the floor and only 20 percent (2 of 10) from three-point range after halftime.

Dixon finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds and four assists to lead the way for Waubonsee. Jymil Toney powered his way inside for 13 points, while Tahjay Blackmon chipped in with 11 points and four assists. Koby Johnson came off the bench to book 10 points and hand out four assists. The Chiefs almost had two more players in double digits as Addison Bode finished with nine points and four assists, while Cory Adams Jr. netted nine points and hauled down seven rebounds. Jacqui Orr contributed four assists and four steals as all 11 Chiefs' players scored at least one basket and had at least one rebound.

The Chiefs are in action again this Thursday, December 6 when they host the Benedictine University Junior Varsity beginning at 7:00 p.m. (CDT).
