Waubonsee maintained a double-digit lead throughout much of the second and led 74-55 with seven minutes left. That's when things began to get interesting and eventually nail-biting time for the Chiefs. The Cyclones made eight free throws and a pair of three-pointers as part of a 22-6 run to suddenly get within three points with 2:48 remaining. A personal foul and a technical foul led to a pair of free throws by Elijah Marto and another by McAuley to put the Chiefs in front 83-77 moments later. However, on the next Cyclones' possession McAuley was whistled for his fifth foul sending Waubonsee's leading scorer to the bench with 2:21 to go. The Cyclones then mounted a frantic rally as the Chiefs committed three fouls and turned the ball over twice in a short span of time. Moraine Valley converted those miscues into a 7-0 run to pull within two points at 86-84 with 1:13 remaining. A driving lay-up by Simeon Strauss with 0:59 to go put the Chiefs up by four before the Cyclones' Lawrence Pointer buried a trey to make it 88-87 with 0:47 left. A pair of free throws by Strauss moments later made it a three-point lead. Zion Fortune then connected on a long three-pointer to tie the game with 0:19 to go. Mills was then fouled on a drive to the basket and converted both charity tosses to make it 92-90 with 0:12 remaining. After a Moraine Valley timeout Fortune mishandled a lob toward the basket that was corralled by Mills and he was fouled with 0:02.9 left. A technical foul against the Cyclones gave the Chiefs four foul shots and Mills subsequently made two of them to clinch the game and allow Waubonsee to exhale.
