(Sugar Grove, IL) - A new era in Waubonsee Community College men's basketball began with a bang. The Chiefs, under new head coach Lance Robinson, bombarded Concordia University-Chicago's Junior Varsity with a school record 17 three-point baskets en route to a 119-98 victory. Waubonsee's season opener featured a high tempo, high octane offense with seven Chiefs scoring in double digits and half a dozen slam dunks by the home team as well. Robinson's first win at Waubonsee, after taking over this season from Hall of Fame coach Dave Heiss, is his 55th career coaching victory overall. "We ran the court well and shared the ball, we are definitely seeing some progress. Now we just need to work more on the defensive end of the floor," stated Robinson afterwards.

The teams consistently traded baskets in a fast paced first half with the Chiefs securing a 54-49 lead at break. Waubonsee then began to separate from the visiting Cougars early in the second half. A breakway, one-handed slam dunk by Asa Williams put the Chiefs in front 58-51. A few moments later a long three-pointer from the right corner by Simeon Strauss pushed the lead to 14 points at 67-53. Waubonsee gradually pulled away from there and took a 20-point lead (100-80) on a steal and two-handed power slam by Williams. A moment later Courtney Fields got open on a back-door feed and made it back-to-back slams with a two-handed rim rattler of his own. The Cougars were never able to get closer than 20 points the rest of the way.

Williams led the Chiefs with 24 points, including four baskets from long range. Cam Irvin added 16 points with four treys of his own, while Strauss finished with 14 points. Fields chipped in with 13 points, Cory Adams Jr. nailed four shots from beyond the arc for his 12 points, and D.J. Ellis and Caleb Siler each tallied 10 points. Concordia was led in scoring by Joel Childers with 25 points, while Jarron Gaddie booked 22 points.
