Chiefs overwhelm Illinois Tech JV's

(Sugar Grove, IL) - Waubonsee Community College's men's basketball team got off to a slow start against Illinois Tech's Junior Varsity in a Sunday afternoon matinee. However, by the time the dust settled in Erickson Hall the Chiefs had overwhelmed the short-handed Scarlett Hawks en route to a 102-68 victory. In the process the Chiefs improved to 7-4 overall on the season with four more games on the schedule in the next 10 days before the holiday break.

Illinois Tech, with just six players suited up, jumped out to a quick 15-6 lead as point guard Ben Wagner nailed his first three shots from beyond the arc. Sparked by eight straight points by Simeon Strauss, Waubonsee caught up and took the lead 33-32. The Chiefs then went on a 21-4 run to close out the half with a comfortable 54-36 lead at the intermission. Waubonsee extended its advantage to 30 points early in the second half and maintained over a 20-point lead throughout the second period. The Chiefs' reserves then closed out the game with a flurry to push the lead to 34 points, the Chiefs' biggest lead of the day. Jonas Cebulski nailed a couple of free throws, while Krzystoph Simmons and Nic Woodhouse scored inside to account for the final points.
