Chiefs stay on top of ISCC with win over Oakton

(Sugar Grove, IL) - Waubonsee Community College's men's basketball team stayed on top of the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) standings with a 79-69 win over visiting Oakton Community College. The Chiefs built a comfortable lead by halftime and then held off the Owls throughout the second half to secure their 14th win of the season and improve to 4-0 in conference play. The Chiefs maintained a half game lead over Moraine Valley Community College, which is 3-1 in the ISCC and 15-4 overall.

After Waubonsee's Asa Williams tied the game at 16-all with a free throw midway through the first half, the Chiefs (14-6, 4-0) proceeeded to go on a 15-0 run to take control of the game. Waubonsee eventually headed to the locker room with a 47-29 lead looking to blow the game open in the second half. However, after the Chiefs' Courtney Fields made the first basket of the second half, Waubonsee was never able to decisively close the deal. Oakton (3-14, 0-4) got to within 11 points midway through the half and had several other opportunities to get the deficit down to single digits.
