
(Charlotte, NC) - Waubonsee Community College's Men's Basketball team continues to move up in the national rankings. Coach Lance Robinson's Chiefs (18-1), riding an 18 game winning streak, are ranked 11th in the latest NJCAA Division II poll. Robinson's crew is just three wins shy of the program record of 21 straight victories set by the 1990-91 team which compiled a 29-8 record that year and finished seventh at the National Tournament. The Chiefs' 18 wins are tied with three other top ranked teams for the second most nationally among all NJCAA Division II teams, trailing only fifth ranked Pima (AZ) Community College which is 20-0. Waubonsee is currently third nationally in three-point baskets with 196 and fifth in assists averaging 20.8 per game.
After being tabbed 18th in the NJCAA's Pre-Season poll, Waubonsee dropped its' season opener to nationally ranked Madison (WI) College. The Chiefs then received votes in the top-35 nationally for a month as they continued to pile up victories. Waubonsee moved into the top-25 in mid-December at number 23 and just before entering the Holiday break the Chiefs scored one of their biggest wins. Waubosee went on the road to then 13th ranked South Suburban College, where the Bulldogs had compiled a 64-2 home record since 2021, and knocked off the perrenial powerhouse 90-82. Waubonsee then jumped up 10 places to 13th in the first poll of 2025 the second week of January.
Three other Region 4 members are also in the current rankings with Madison (13-3) positioned 21st, Bryant & Stratton (WI) College (15-4) listed 22nd and South Suburban (12-7) tabbed 27th overall. Parkland College (17-2) from downstate Champaign is ranked seventh. The Chiefs are set to host Moraine Valley Community College in an Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference match-up this coming Thursday, January 23 in Waubonsee's Erickson Hall Gymnasium with the tipoff set for 7:15 p.m..
