Hed, Clark compete at Nationals

(Plymouth, Ind.) - Waubonsee Community College men's golfers Jake Hed and Jackson Clark competed at the 2019 NJCAA Division II National Championship Tournament over the weekend. Hed finished tied for 68th overall, while Clark came in tied for 96th among the 132 participants at the Swan Lake Resort in north central Indiana. Golfers from 42 Division II junior colleges from across the country competed in the four-day, 72-hole tournament which was hampered by inclement weather, resulting in only three golfers in the entire field finishing below par. Hed and Clark qualified for nationals after finishing in the top-15 of the three-day, 54-hole Region IV Tournament back in November, the only NJCAA regional held in the fall.

Hed, a sophomore from Kaneland High School, turned in rounds of 79, 84, 81 and 75 to finish with a four-day total of 319. The Elburn native earned All-Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) honors in the fall after finishing fourth in the league, booking a 74.25 average over five conference matches. Hed secured All-Region status and a berth to Nationals by placing 12th at the Region IV Tournament with a three-day total of 228, an average of 76 per round.

Clark, a Marmion Academy graduate, struggled in the first and third rounds on the way to tallying a four-day total of 327. The sophomore carded scores of 87, 77, 87 and 76 to finish 39 strokes over par for the 72-hole event. Clark finished seventh over five conference matches this past fall with a 77.5 average to earn All-ISCC honors for the second time in his Waubonsee career. The Aurora native became a two-time All-Region performer as well by placing fifth at the Region IV Tournament to qualify for Nationals, shooting a three-day total of 221 for a 73.7 average.
