Chiefs hold off CLC in ISCC match #4

(Lemont, IL.) - Waubonsee Community College's golfers held off the College of Lake County to take the top spot in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference's (ISCC) fourth match of the season. The Chiefs posted a team total of 330 to edge the Lancers by two strokes at the legendary Cog Hill Golf Course in Lemont. The win moves Waubonsee to within a point of the Lancers in the overall ISCC standings with two matches remaining. Lake County has finished first twice and taken second place twice for a total of six points, with an overall total of 1,292 strokes. Meanwhile the Chiefs have grabbed the top spot twice and have a second and third place finish in four conference matches, with a total of 1,334 strokes. With Lake County holding a nearly insurmountable 42-stroke tie breaker lead, Waubonsee will have to win both of the remaining ISCC matches to win the league title.

Individually, Lake County's Konnor Kininmouth topped the leaderboard with a stellar round, firing a 32 on the back nine to finish with a 2-under par 69 at Cog Hill. Waubonsee was led by Austen Velazquez who carded a 6-over par 77. Ben Gorski and Kade Witt both tallied scores of 82, while Tony LoPresti ended the day with an 89 and Branson Vahl finished with a 90 to round out the Chiefs competitors. The next ISCC match is set for Monday, September 28 at Mount Prospect Golf Course in north suburban Mount Prospect beginning at 12:30 p.m. The final ISCC match is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30 at Pine Meadows Golf Course in Mundelein, the Lancers' home course.
