Chiefs blown off course, finish 3rd at final ISCC match

(Mundelein, IL) -  With steady winds around 20 miles per hour and frequent gusts whipping up to 35, all the competitiors struggled on Wednesday at the final Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference match of the season. Waubonsee Community College's Men's Golf team finished the day at Pine Meadows Golf Course in third place with a team total of 356. Overall the Chiefs finished with 12 points in the ISCC standings, placing second behind the College of Lake County. The Lancers won four of the six conference matches, including windy Wednesday, to capture the ISCC title for 2020. Lake County posted a season-worst 345 to finish the day eight shots ahead of Moraine Valley Community College. Elgin Community College ended the round in fourth place with a score of 389, while Oakton Community College tallied a 421 team total.

Individually, the Lancers' Trevor Brandon grabbed medalist honors despite carding a 9-over par 81. Waubonsee's Austen Velazquez tied for second with the Lancers' Konnor Kininmouth, both just one stroke back from the leader. The Chiefs' Ben Gorski fired an 84 to finish tied for fourth on the day with Moraine Valley's Marty Bennett. Tony LoPresti tallied a 94, Branson Vahl finished with a 96 and Kade Witt ended his round with a 104.

The Chiefs had three golfers earn All-Conference for the 2020 season. Velazquez finished second to earn All-ISCC honors for the second straight year. Over the six ISCC matches the sophomore posted a 76.8 average, finishing behind only Kininmouth's average of 75.4 overall. Gorski also earned All-ISCC status, finishing fifth overall with an 80.4 average. LoPresti was the third member of the Waubonsee All-ISCC trio as he placed 10th overall with an 87.4 average.
