Chiefs finish third at third ISCC match

(Lemont, IL) - In the third Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) match of the season Waubonsee Community College golfers took third place for the third straight time. Coach Dusty Darnold's crew carded a team total of 348 at the beautiful Pete Dye designed Ruffled Feathers Golf Course in Lemont. Dye, known for designing the famous TPC at Sawgrass course in Florida with its iconic island green 17th hole, also incorporated an island green on the tough 140-yard 11th hole at Ruffled Feathers. However, that challenge didn't ruffle the ISCC's front runner. On an ideal day to play with clear skies, a light wind and temperatures in the mid-70's, the College of Lake County seized the opportunity once more. The Lancers booked a score of 296 to easily beat second-place Moraine Valley Community College's total of 310.

Individually for the Chiefs, Gavin Woods led the way with an 8-over par 80 to tie for 10th on the leaderboard, while posting three birdies on the day. Despite a rough start, Isaac McCumber carded an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole on his way to finishing with an 86. McCumber's group also had to contend with a rare delay that slowed their pace of play. The group was stopped for a time on the 10th hole while a large, wayward turtle ambled across the green from presumably one water hazard to another. Waubonsee's Cody Ganzon fired an 89 and Parker Wrecenyar ended his round with a 93. The Lancers' Eddie Winkleman took medalist honors once again with a 4-under par 68 turning in a 33 on the back nine holes.
