WCC golfers take third at Cog Hill

(Lemont, IL) - On another perfect weather day to play Waubonsee Community College golfers finished third at the fourth Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference match of the season. Under sunny skies, temperatures in the low 70's and among the towering oak trees of the prestigious Cog Hill Country Club, the former host of the Western Open and BMW Championship, the Chiefs posted a team score of 332 on the facility's 6500-yard #3 course. The host school Moraine Valley Community College took the top spot with a score of 309 to narrowly edge the College of Lake County by two strokes. Waubonsee was led by Cody Ganzon who fired a 4-over par 76, which included an eagle on the par-5 15th hole. Isaac McCumber carded two birdies on his way to posting an 83. The Oswego East High School product would also have shot par on the par-3 12th hole if not for a little misfortune. Lined up for a 70-foot putt on the expansive green, McCumber elected to not have the flagstick removed from the cup despite encouragement to do so by his playing partners. As fate would have it his putt was right on the money and hit the stick before popping out of the hole for a bogey. Gavin Woods was a shot behind his teammate with an 84. Playing in his first match of the season, Waubonsie Valley High School alumnus  Garrett Grastorf hit some huge drives on the back nine on his way to finishing with an 89.
