The fall of 2018 marks Rodney Davis’ fifth year with Waubonsee’s program. A former standout NCAA Division I student-athlete, Davis knows what it takes to flourish on the course and in the classroom. An avid player, teacher and motivator, Davis continues to bring all those intangibles to the Chiefs’ coaching staff. In 2015 he helped guide Waubonsee to the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference title and the Region IV Division II crown as the squad qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament. As a result Davis and head coach Dave Heiss were tabbed as Region IV Golf Co-Coaches of the Year. In 2016 he helped the Chiefs capture a second straight ISCC title and a 20th place finish at the 2017 NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Arizona.

Davis is a 1984 graduate of Aurora East High School, where he was a varsity basketball player all four years of his prep career. He was an Honorable Mention All-State and All-Upstate Eight Conference performer for the Tomcats’ and was inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002. After high school Davis went on to a distinguished playing career at Northern Illinois University, finishing among the Huskies’ all-time leaders in scoring, assists and three-point shooting. He later signed on professionally as a free agent with the Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Timberwolves, while also playing in the Continental Basketball Association. Davis was inducted into the Huskies’ Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.

Davis earned his bachelor's degree from Aurora University in business administration in 1997. He is President and founder of L.I.F.E. Support Inc., a non-profit organization that provides numerous social services and recreational activities for at-risk youths in the Aurora area. Davis has even authored a short book “After the Buzzer: 7 Steps for Winning the Big Game,” to help student-athletes in and out of the sports arena. An all-around athlete who also excelled in baseball and golf, Davis additionally is a certified basketball referee and has coached basketball at the collegiate level, serving as an assist coach at Aurora University for three seasons. Davis and his wife Tonya resides in Oswego, and have two children, son Blake and daughter Alexis.
