Alfaro nets Hat Trick, Chiefs nip Panthers in Overtime

(Sugar Grove, IL.) - Waubonsee Community College took a big step toward a possible third straight Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) title with a hard fought 3-2 victory over Morton College in overtime. The Chiefs' Jose Alfaro Jr. scored all three Waubonsee goals for his first 'hat trick' of the season. The win moved Waubonsee's record to 3-0 in ISCC play, tied with Moraine Valley at the top of the league standings.

After a scoreless first half Alfaro broke through in the 69th minute with an assist from Michael Waclaw for his third goal of the fall. Four minutes later he stake the Chiefs to a 2-0 lead with an assist from Edgar Esquivel. However, the Panthers (2-3-0, 1-1-0) rallied late getting on the scoreboard just five minutes later. Morton then tied the game with only 1:20 remaining to send the game into extra time. The crowd was barely settled in for the overtime session before Alfaro ended it. The Chiefs' freshman midfielder took a long clear out kick by keeper Daryl Tangunyi and nailed the game-winning goal just 0:30 into overtime. For the match Waubonsee (4-0-1, 3-0-0) had 10 shots on goal and the Panthers nine as Tangunyi and Morton keeper Lukas Palma each registered seven saves.
