Relentless Chiefs Rout Spartans in ISCC Opener

(Sugar Grove, IL) - A relentless offensive attack by Waubonsee Community College's men's soccer team resulted in a dominating 6-0 victory over visiting Elgin Community College. The Chiefs kept the Spartans back on their heels throughout much of the match on the way to improving to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference. Waubonsee out shot Elgin 21-3 and turned the game into a rout with four second half goals.

Librado Olivares started the scoring midway through the first half with an assist from Adrian Bravo Cobian. Eleven minutes later Dany Paz tallied a goal off an assist from Alejandro Arevalo as the Chiefs took a 2-0 lead into halftime. Waubonsee continued to push the tempo throughout the second half and gradually wore down the Spartans. The Chiefs' Andy Emile booked his second goal of the season with an assist from Olivares nine minutes into the second period. In the 70th minute Arevalo was pulled down by a Spartans' defender inside the box and then blasted a shot into the left corner on the ensuing penalty kick for a 4-0 lead. With five minutes to go Waubonsee tacked on another score as Dante Sosa took a perfect feed from Manuel Magana and tapped it past Elgin's off balance keeper. Chiefs' head coach Brett Suhayda utilized his bench throughout the second half and it resulted in a sixth score in the final minute. With fresh legs the Chiefs' Cameron Davis beat an Elgin defender to the ball out in front of the net, with his sliding kick from 8-yards out finding the right corner for the final tally. Chiefs' keeper Diego Daniel registered three saves in recording his second straight shutout win.
