Chiefs rebound with big win over SSub

(South Holland, IL) - After a frustrating 0-0 tie in their last match four days ago, Waubonsee Community College's men's soccer team made a definitive statement with a 6-0 romp over highly touted South Suburban College. The Chiefs (11-4-1) scored three first half goals on the way to a dominating win over the Bulldogs (11-4-0). Waubonsee's offense, which had sputtered last Thursday at Oakton Community College, unable to score in 90-minutes of play and two overtimes, had South Suburban back on its heels most of the match. The Chiefs out shot the Bulldogs 14-3 overall and controlled much of the action in the battle between two top-5 NJCAA Region IV teams.

Waubonsee's Dany Paz broke through in the 35th minute with an assist from Adrian Bravo Cobian to start the scoring. Only four minutes later Librado Olivares booked his 10th goal of the season with an assist from Bravo Cobian as well. A few moments later Olivares netted his second goal of the day, scoring an unassisted goal for a 3-0 Chiefs' lead with only 1:40 remaining in the first half. Waubonsee added to its comfortable lead seven minutes into the second half when Bravo Cobian scored off of an assist from Alejandro Arevalo, who recorded his team-leading 11th assist. Manuel Magana registered his seventh goal of the season in the 70th minute as Dante Sosa was credited with his ninth assist of the fall. Andy Emile then capped off the scoring with his sixth goal of the year in the 77th minute off an assist from Jose Munoz. Diego Daniel and Zackary McNew split time in the net for the Chiefs, with McNew tallying three saves in the shutout win.

Waubonsee is in action again this Thursday, October 17 when they travel to Chicago's Marquette Park to take on Daley College begining at 4:00 p.m. The Chiefs return home this weekend when they host the College of DuPage on Saturday, October 19. Kickoff is slated for noon on Waubonsee's pitch in Sugar Grove.
