Chiefs Hold Off Judson JV's

(Sugar Grove, IL) – Waubonsee Community College men's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 5-4 win over Judson University's Junior Varsity on Tuesday afternoon. The Chiefs finish the season with an 8-8-1 record overall. Coach Brett Suhayda's crew also went 3-3-1 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play to finish fifth in the league.

Waubonsee's Andy Emile had a pair of excellent shots that were stopped by Eagles' keeper Lucas Salas in the opening 15 minutes of play. However, in the 27th minute Emile burst ahead of the Judson defense. Attacking from the right side of the box, the Aurora West High School product out maneuvered a defender and Salas. Moving to the middle, Emile regained control of the ball and tapped a left-footed shot back to the right corner as Salas sprawled to the ground trying to reverse direction.

Judson evened the score four minutes later when Chiefs' keeper Sinoe Rosillo came out from the goal line and got caught out of position.  Judson's Wilondja Emena, a native of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, booted a shot into the left corner of the goal to knot the score. In 33rd minute the Chiefs regained the lead when a shot by Milan Erastus-Obilo was deflected by Salas and into the air. The ball came down on the far side where Lincoln Lillwitz drilled a shot into the back of the net for his eighth goal of the fall and a 2-1 lead.

Waubonsee tacked on a third goal two minutes later when Emile's pass from the right wing was knocked in by Erastus-Obilo who was streaking down the middle of the box with a Judson defender on his left hip. With an assist from Axel Sanchez, Emile tallied another goal in the 38th minute as he beat Salas, a native of Durango, Spain, to put the Chiefs in front 4-1. A foul on the Chiefs in the 40th minute resulted in a free kick for Judson from 20 yards out. The Eagles' Van Zuala proceeded to drill a shot into the left corner out of the reach of Rosillo to make it 4-2. The score remained that way as the match headed to the halftime break.

In the opening minute of the second half the Chiefs added a fifth score when Caleb Hester converted a penalty kick after Emile was taken down in the box. Hester drilled the ball into the left side of the net, faking out new Eagles' keeper Jose Flores. The Eagles got that goal back 10 minutes later when the other half of their Congo connection got involved. Etabo Emena got a shot past Chiefs' keeper Brandon Ducoing, who had taken over in net to start the second half, pulling Judson back to within two at 5-3.

In the 60th minute the Eagles got within a goal when Pedro Botello zigged and zagged through three Chiefs' defenders and tapped the ball to the right corner, just out of the reach of a diving DuCoing. After a frenetic scoring pace during the middle 30 minutes of the match, neither team could score the rest of the way as the Chiefs held on for the victory.
