Five members of Waubonsee Community College's Men's Soccer team were recognized for their outstanding play by the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) and the NJCAA's Region 4 Division II Committee. The Chiefs' Lincoln Lillwitz and Juan Noyola were both named All-ISCC First Team and All-Region for the 2022 season. Defender Benedicte Ndjibu was selected to the All-ISCC Second Team, while Daniel Avila and goal keeper Dana Brisbon Jr. were each chosen ISCC Honorable Mention.
A speedy sophomore forward, Lillwitz led the Chiefs in scoring for the second straight year. The Aurora Central Catholic High School graduate tallied 10 goals on the season, including three game-winning scores. Lillwitz also was credited with five assists and his 25 total points were tops on the team as well. Noyola, a Yorkville High School alumnus, did a little bit of everything for the Chiefs from his midfielder position. The sophomore finished the season with four goals and six assists. Ndjibu, originally from Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, helped anchor a Chiefs defense that recorded five shutouts on the season and allowed only 26 goals in 18 matches.
A freshman from Oswego, Avila booked seven goals and had two assists on the season. The forward was a key part of a Waubonsee offense that tallied 47 goals, tying for 26th nationally in that category among NJCAA Division II teams. Brisbon, a freshman from Oswego East High School, finished the season with a 1.26 goals-against-average to rank 22nd among all Division II keepers in that statistic. Known as Xavier to his teammates, Brisbon also registered 85 saves on the way to recording a dozen wins in net for the Chiefs.
Waubonsee finished the season with a 13-4-1 record overall, falling in the first round of the Region 4 Tournament to Triton College. Ranked as high as 17th nationally late in the season, Coach Brett Suhayda's Chiefs placed third in the ISCC with a 5-2 mark. Both of the Chiefs' conference losses came to nationally-ranked teams, 11th ranked Prairie State College and 4th ranked Morton College. Those two teams, predominantly featuring international student-athletes, eventually met in the NJCAA Division II National Championship match with the Pioneers prevailing 1-0 to hand the Panthers their only loss of the season.
