Avila scores NJCAA POTW award

(Charlotte, NC) - Waubonsee Community College's Daniel Avila has been named the NJCAA Division II Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the third week of September. The Chiefs' sophomore forward scored seven goals in eight shots on goal during a pair of Waubonsee victories last week. Avila scored four times in the Chiefs' 7-2 win over Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference foe McHenry County College. The Oswego High School product followed that up with three more goals in a 4-1 triumph at Carl Sandburg College on September 23. For the season Avila has 14 goals in the nine matches he has appeared in, placing him fourth nationally in scoring among all NJCAA Division II Men's Soccer players. His 33 points rank sixth nationally and he has notched three game-winning goals thus far this season tying him for fifth in that category.

Waubonsee is currently 6-6 overall and 4-1 in ISCC action after falling 2-1 to defending National Champion and 15th ranked Prairie State College (8-2) this past weekend. Avila scored the Chiefs lone goal in the loss, which resulted in Waubonsee, Prairie State and Morton all being tied for first in the conference standings with two games remaining in league play. The Chiefs are set to travel to 19th ranked Morton (7-3-1) next Tuesday, October 3 for a 4:00 p.m. match. Waubonsee is slated to close out its' ISCC schedule on Tuesday, October 10 when they host the College of Lake County (2-7-2, 0-5) in a 4:00 p.m. game.
