Zangri sets WCC record on way to Region Runner of the Year

Waubonsee Community College's Women's and Men's Cross Country teams competed in the Region IV Championship Meet hosted by Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon. The Chiefs' Emma McSpadden finished second overall, earning All-Region honors and qualifying for the NJCAA Division I National Meet on Nov. 11 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The men's team placed second overall in a tight race for the team title, falling 55-57 to Moraine Valley Community College. The second place finished earned the entire Chiefs' men's team a birth in the national meet. Waubonsee's Dylan Zangri, a freshman from Oswego East High School, earned Region IV Men's Runner of the Year and ran a new school record with a time of 25:27. Three other Chiefs' runners also earned All-Region status. Sophomore Jose Alvarado finished in 10th place, freshman Julian Hernandez was right behind him in 11th place, and sophomore Jason Schlicher came in 14th overall.
