Chiefs run at 23rd Annual Warrior Invite

(West Allis, WI) - Waubonsee Community Colllege Cross Country runners competed at Wisconsin Lutheran University's 23rd Annual Warrior Invitational on Saturday at Greenfield Park in the Milwaukee suburb of West Allis. The Chiefs' women's team placed 13th and the men's squad finished 14th as the only junior college competing amongst the field made up mostly of NCAA Division III four-year schools and Division I Club Teams. The University of Wisconsin-Madison Track Club won the women's title with a score of 28 to finish well ahead of second-place St. Norbert (WI.) University with 64 points. Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) ran off with the men's title with a score of 22 to easily outpace the rest of the field.  

In the women's 6K race Waubonsee compiled a team score of 345, led by Megan Johnson who placed 44th among the 131 runners from 21 teams that participated. Rose Dallal placed 66th, Nuria Pugh was right behind her in 67th place, Emma Perry came in 78th and Abbigail Placido was 90th to round out Waubonsee's scoring. UW-Madison's Dasha Vorontsov ran away from the competition wininng the race in a time of 22:33, a full 51 seconds ahead of the next closest finisher. In the 8K men's race Logan Cunz paced Waubonsee's runners as he finished 47th out of the 163 competitors from 20 schools that participated, posting a time of 29:59 overall. Dayton Beatty placed 61st for Waubonsee booking a time of 30:49. The Chiefs' Huitzi Del Real shaved a minute and 43 seconds off his previous best time this season as he came in 83rd with a time of 33:47. Owen Kroeyr placed 88th and Ricardo Duran was 94th to account for Waubonsee's score of 373, while Clayton Burnett finished 99th. MSOE's Patrick Lee won the men's race in atime of 26:21, finishing 14 seconds ahead of teammate Xander Gottner.
