Chiefs' runners getting National recognition

The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently released their collegiate polls for the first week of September. Waubonsee Community College's Women's and Men's Cross Country teams were both recognized after the first weekend of the fall season. The Chiefs' women's team, led by Anna Green and returning All-Region performer Meghan Johnson, were tied for 22nd in the NJCAA Division II rankings with Gadsen State (AL) Community College. Mesa (AZ) Community College is ranked number one nationally with Paradise Valley (AZ) Community College tabbed second. Heartland College from central Illinois is the ranked sixth nationally, while Carl Sandburg College is 25th and Moraine Valley Community College is 26th as the only other Illinois schools in the top-30. Meanwhile, Waubonsee's men's team, led by phenomenally fast freshman David Valkanov and returning All-Region runner Dayton Beatty, is ranked 30th in the USTFCCCA NJCAA Division II poll. Mesa (AZ) Community College also tops the men's poll with Cowley (KS) College behind them in second. Heartland (IL) College's men are also ranked sixth nationally, while fellow Region 4 member Sauk Valley (IL) Community College is 23rd nationally.
