(Kissimmee, FL.) - Waubonsee Community College's Softball team won two more games to improve to 9-4 overall on the season. The Chiefs rallied to edge Bethel (IN.) University's Junior Varsity 9-8 and then downed Onondaga (NY) Community College 7-4 at the Osceola County Softball Complex. Coach Kristen Corning's squad won for the seventh time in nine games during their annual Spring Trip to Florida. The Chiefs wrap up their southern swing with a single game today, March 22 against Iowa Central Community College in Clermont, Florida. Waubonsee is slated to host Illinois Valley Community College in a doubleheader next Tuesday, March 26 in their home opener beginning at 3:00 p.m.

In the Chiefs victory over Bethel they fell behind 7-4 after three innings of play. Waubonsee then scored twice in the fourth and three more times in the fifth to grab a 9-7 lead. A sacrifice fly by Megan White scored Maddie Kawall, and then Katie Beebe drilled a two-out double to plate Autumn Sullivan to get the Chiefs within a run. A run-scoring single by Kawall tied the game in the fifth and back-to-back errors by Bethel allowed Waubonsee to take the lead. Katy Shawke got the win in the circle going six innings, scattering 11 hits while striking out four and walking no one. Allyson Johnson came on in the seventh inning to nail down the save, stranding the potential tying and go ahead runs on base to end the game. The Chiefs finished with a dozen hits as White, Beebe, Kawall, Sullivan and Alyssa Eby all registered two hits each. Beebe also had a two-run single in the first inning, driving in three runs in the game to increase her team-leading total to 21 runs batted in on the season.

The 6'0" freshman then picked up her sixth win of the season with a complete game victory over Onondaga. The right-handed hurler moved her record to 6-1 by allowing just five hits and two earned runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking only two. Again Waubonsee trailed early, came back to take the lead and then held off the Lazers for the win. Onondaga led 3-2 after three innings before the Chiefs tied it with a run in the top of the fifth. In the sixth Tori Isom drew a one-out walk and then scored moments later when she stole third and scampered home when the catcher's throw sailed into left field. Two batters later Eby laced a single to right center to score Kawall and give the Chiefs a 5-3 lead. Waubonsee tacked on two more insurance runs in the seventh, highlighted by a run-scoring, pinch-hit single by Brittany Thomas. Kawall and Eby each collected two more hits to lead the Chiefs' offense.
