Chiefs, Sullivan Demolish Spartans

(Sugar Grove, IL.) - Sparked by the power bat of shortstop Autumn Sullivan, Waubonsee Community College blasted Elgin Community College 17-1 in game one of their Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference doubleheader. Highlighted by Sullivan's second three-run homer in as many innings, the Chiefs erupted for 12 runs in the bottom of the third inning to break the game open. Every Waubonsee starter reached base at least twice and scored in the lopsided victory. Game two was suspended after just two innings after inclement weather descended upon the area.

The Chiefs (22-14, 4-4) pushed across a run in the first inning and then tallied three more in the second when Sullivan launched her fifth home run of the season. The three-run shot over the left center field fence made it 4-0 Waubonsee after just two innings. In the bottom of the third Waubonsee sent 16 batters to the plate and scored 12 times to offically turn the game into a rout. After Tori Isom singled in a run, Alexandra Martin drilled a two-run homer to center field for a 7-0 Chiefs lead. Four batters later Sullivan smacked another three-run shot to left center field again to give Waubonsee a 10-0 lead. Katie Beebe followed with a double to left center and she scored moments later on an Elgin error. Later in the frame Isom and Eby singled in runs before Megan White ripped a two-run double to left to make it 16-0. Waubonsee added another run in the fourth when Samantha Moravek drew a bases-loaded walk to score Jessica Wilson.

Meanwhile, Beebe was keeping the Spartans' bats in check. The right-hander lost her bid for a shutout in the top of the fifth when Elgin tallied an unearned run. Beebe struck out six, walked no one, and surrendered five hits over five innings on the way to earning her 13th win in the circle. For the game Eby finished 3 for 3 with a double, three runs scored, a run driven in and a stolen base. Sullivan ended the game 2 for 4 with the pair of home runs, two runs scored and six knocked in. Beebe and Isom each finished with two hits, while Emily Moravek scored three times.

Game two is set to be resumed on Saturday, May 4 at 11:00 a.m. on the Chiefs' diamond. Later that day Waubonsee will also be hosting Morton College in a twinbill to close out their ISCC slate. Game one is set for 2:00 p.m. with a ceremony recognizing the Chiefs' sophomores scheduled for approximately 15 minutes prior to that. Saturday will also be Softball Alumni Day with at least 30 former Chiefs' players expected to be in attendance.
