Chiefs seeded second in Region Tournament

(Sugar Grove, IL.) - Waubonsee Community College's softball team received the number two seed for the Region IV Division II District B Tournament. The Chiefs (30-16) will host seventh seeded Sauk Valley Community College (9-27) in a best two-out-of-three series tomorrow, Wednesday, May 8 beginning at 1:00 p.m. The winner will advance to the 'final four' of the tournament, which will be hosted by Highland Community College at Read Park in Freeport. The winner between the Chiefs and Skyhawks will play at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 against a yet-to-be-determined opponent. The Region IV Champion is set to be crowned on Sunday with the winner earning a berth in the 2019 NJCAA Division II National Tournament at Traceway Park in Clinton, Mississippi beginning May 22. 

Head coach Kristen Corning's Chiefs are led by first baseman Alyssa Eby who is batting .465 on the season. The freshman from St. Charles North High School leads the team in runs scored with 55, hits with 79 and is tied for the team lead with 17 doubles. Shortstop Autumn Sullivan enters post-season play with a .429 batting average and a team-leading 54 runs batted in. A sophomore from Oswego East High School, the right-handed batter has smacked 14 doubles, five triples and six home runs to go along with swiping 13 bases in 15 attempts. Clean-up hitter Katie Beebe is batting .426 with 17 doubles, seven homers and 46 runs driven in. The Oswego High School alumnus also leads the Chiefs in the pitching circle with 15 wins and a 2.91 earned run average to go along with striking out 116 batters. Centerfielder Maddie Kawall has a .400 batting average and a team-leading 17 stolen bases, while Megan White has posted a .375 batting average and Jessica Wilson has knocked in 29 runs.
