
The Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) and the NJCAA's Region IV recognized six Waubonsee Community College softball players and two Chiefs' baseball players for their outstanding performances this past spring. Softball players Jori Peters and Taylor Wyeth headlined the Chiefs' honorees as they both were named to the All-ISCC First Team and the All-Region squads. Teammates Jesika Lowe and Ronnie Latka were each selected All-ISCC Second Team, while Breanna O'Malley-Molk and Taylor Warren were both chosen All-ISCC Honorable Mention. In addition, Warren and Janeen O'Reilly were named to the Region IV All-Tournament Team for their stellar post-season play. Baseball player Lukas Haddox was selected to the All-ISCC Second Team with Cole Schrank being tabbed All-ISCC Honorable Mention.
The Chiefs' lead-off hitter, Peters batted .413 on the season with 20 stolen bases in 24 attempts on the way to being named All-Region First Team. The sophomore center fielder smacked 52 hits including 14 doubles, a triple and six home runs. The Oswego East High School graduate drove in a team-leading 38 runs, scored 31 runs, compiled a .464 on-base percentage, posted a .683 slugging percentage and struck out only six times in 138 plate appearances.
Wyeth, a sophomore from Aurora West High School, posted a .384 batting average with six doubles, a triple and a home run after taking over at third base half a dozen games into the season. Wyeth stole a dozen bases, scored 20 runs and compiled a .435 on-base percentage in 36 games played on the way to being selected to the All-Region Second Team.
A graduate of Indian Creek High School, Lowe batted .310 with 11 doubles, a triple, four home runs, 22 runs knocked in and 22 runs scored. The sophomore also made 18 appearances in the circle winning five games with a 4.07 earned-run-average over 89 and a third innings of work.
Latka, a sophomore catcher from Kaneland High School, hit .270 with five doubles, a triple and a home run. The fleet-footed receiver also stole 21 bases and was thrown out only twice all season. Latka posted a .972 fielding percentage in 41 games behind the plate, catching all but five innings the Chiefs' played during the season.
A freshman from Plainfield East High School, O'Malley-Molk batted .288 overall with a 13 stolen bases in 38 games played. In ISCC action she posted a .409 batting average, going 9-for-22 with five runs driven in and five runs scored
Warren, a freshman from Yorkville High School, went 11-4 in the circle with a 3.09 earned-run-average over 97 and a third innings pitched in 16 appearances. The right-handed hurler won three games in the Region IV Tournament, including a 3-hit complete game gem to eliminate perennial power Kankakee Community College.
O'Reilly, the Chiefs' freshman shortstop, went 5 for 17 at the plate in Region Tournament with four runs driven in, four runs scored and a key home run to help eliminate McHenry County College. Overall on the season the Plainfield Central product batted .298 with six doubles, two triples and a home run.
Haddox, an infielder from Yorkville High School, batted .268 with 6 stolen bases overall on the season in 30 games played. However, in ISCC action the freshman batted .414 with 12 hits in 29 at bats, including smacking three doubles.
A 6'6" left-handed hitting catcher from Winnebago High School, Schrank batted .262 overall with three home runs and 23 runs batted in on the season in 42 games played. The freshman receiver threw out 16 runners during the season and posted a .973 fielding percentage.
Waubonsee went 21-21 overall on the season under first-year head coach Joe Spitzzeri. As the number five seed the Chiefs finished third at the Region IV Division II District B Tournament, knocking off perennial favorite Kankakee along the way before bowing out on a 2-1 loss to Highland Community College just a game away from the title round. Waubonsee also went 5-5 in ISCC play to place third in the final league standings. The Chiefs' baseball team struggled with consistency and finished 16-34 overall. However, included in that win total were a pair of wins over top-10 nationally-ranked teams. Coach Rodney Lopez' crew went 4-10 in ISCC action to finish sixth in the conference standings.
