Chiefs Clinch Share of ISCC Championship With Road Win at Oakton

For the third time in as many years the Waubonsee Chiefs women's basketball team will hang an Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) championship banner in Erickson Hall.  Waubonsee clinched a share of the title, which they will share with McHenry County College, with a 63-51 victory at Oakton College on Thursday night. It is also the fourth time in the last five years that Waubonsee has captured the ISCC title, going a combined 59-9 in ISCC action over that span.

The Chiefs were led by sophomore Mozelle Kempiak who recorded yet another double double, the 45th of her career, with an 18-point and 10 rebound effort. Lauren Goff chipped in 13 points on 5 of 7 shooting from the field and Kayla Battle and Alexis VanWyhe contributed 10 points a piece to the balanced Waubonsee attack.

The Chiefs finish the regular season with an 18-12 record, 11-3 in the Skyway Conference.  Waubonsee, led by first-year head coach Jim Williams, will now prepare for post-season play.  Seeding for the NJCAA Region IV Division II tournament will be announced Sunday, February 25th.  The tournament's quarterfinal games will be hosted by the higher seeds on Tuesday, February 27th.  The remainder of the tournament will be hosted at Waubonsee on March 3rd (semifinals) and March 10th (finals).  Follow GoChiefs.com throughout the tournament for all the latest scores and news.
