Cold-shooting Chiefs fall to Elmhurst JV's

(Sugar Grove, IL.) – Waubonsee Community College's offensive struggles continued as the Chiefs shot just 24 percent from the field en route to losing 74-42 to Elmhurst College's Junior Varsity. The Chiefs (3-4) also turned the ball over 29 times and made just one three-point basket all game in arguably their worst game of the season. 

The Chiefs fell behind 24-13 after one quarter with the opening stanza featuring sloppy play by both teams. The two teams combined to commit a dozen turnovers and 16 fouls, leading to 21 free throw attempts in the initial 10 minutes of play alone. By halftime the Chiefs' deficit had grown to 41-23 as Waubonsee shot just 28 percent (7 of 28) from the floor while the Blue Jays connected on 56 percent (14 of 28) of their shot attempts.

Elmhurst (3-1) began the third quarter with an 11-3 run to blow the game open and the Chiefs never got closer than 20 points the rest of the way. Waubonsee scored just five points in the fourth quarter as the Blue Jays pulled away. For the game both teams combined to turn the ball over 62 times and commit 39 fouls. However, Elmhurst shot 55 percent (27 of 48) from the floor, nailed nine shots from beyond the arc and out rebounded the Chiefs 47-25 to offset their miscues.

Jasmine Shepard was the lone bright spot for Waubonsee as she scored 13 points, grabbed five rebounds and handed out a pair of assists. Katie Beebe hauled down seven rebounds and made three steals in the loss. Waubonsee will look to get back on track again next Tuesday, November 27 when they host Sauk Valley Community College.
