Chiefs, Beebe Dominate Chaparrals

(Sugar Grove, IL.) – Waubonsee Community College raced out to a big lead and never looked back in downing the College of DuPage 74-42. The Chiefs held the Chaparrals to just 25 percent (15 of 60) shooting for the game and dominated the boards. Waubonsee grabbed a 74-41 rebounding advantage, sparked by forward Katie Beebe. The freshman posted a double-double with 22 points and 20 rebounds, her second straight game with over 20 boards.

Waubonsee jumped out to a double-digit lead just four minutes into the game on a three pointer by Hayley Farren to make it 11-1. Maddie Kawall, who has been sidelined nearly two years after suffering a severe ACL injury, then made her debut midway through the first quarter and nailed her first shot attempt from the top of the key to put the Chiefs in front 17-3. Waubonsee held a 23-9 lead after one quarter and then officially turned the game into a rout by going on an 11-0 run to start the second period. The Chiefs went into the locker room with a 44-22 advantage holding the Chaparrals (3-6) to just 26 percent (9 of 34) shooting in the first half.

Waubonsee then went on a 13-3 run to start the second half to grab their biggest lead up to that point at 57-25. The Chiefs (5-4) eventually secured a 62-35 lead after three quarters. Waubonsee then started the final period with an 8-0 run to take its' biggest lead of the game at 70-35, coasting to the victory.

In addition to leading the Chiefs in scoring and rebounding, Beebe also blocked four shots and made four steals. Waubonsee had three other players in double figures as well. Kayla Battle booked a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds. Jasmine Shepard added a dozen points and Farren chipped in with 11 points. Alexia Nicolai dished out a season-high 10 assists and Tatyanna Smith hauled down seven boards. For the game the Chiefs out scored DuPage 40-10 in the paint and tallied 26 points directly off of Chaparral turnovers.

The Chiefs are in action again this Saturday, December 1 when they travel north of the border to take on Milwaukee (WI.) Area Technical College. The Chiefs and Storm are set to tip-off at 1:00 p.m. (CDT) on Alverno College's court in Milwaukee, with the men's contest to follow at 3:00 p.m. Jim Williams' women's squad returns home next Tuesday, December 4 when they host Aurora University's Junior Varsity beginning at 5:00 p.m. (CDT) with Dave Heiss' men's team taking on the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Both those games can be seen 'live' on-line at www.GoChiefs.com with IBCA Hall of Famer Mark Krueger and the Chiefs' Sports Information Specialist Steve Moga calling all the action.
