Chiefs, Beebe Rebound with win over Madison

(Sugar Grove, IL) - Waubonsee Community College's women's basketball team evened its record at 3-3 overall with a 63-44 victory over Madison (WI) College. The Chiefs' Katie Beebe, coming off a school record-setting performance with 13 blocked shots on Tuesday in a loss at Rock Valley, eclipsed another Waubonsee single-game record in the win over the visiting Wolfpack. The 6'0" sophomore center, who entered the game second nationally among NJCAA Division II players with a 16.2 rebounds per game average, snagged 25 boards to go along with booking 12 points and handing out five assists.

The Chiefs jumped out to a 9-0 in the first three minutes of the game and led 15-7 at the end of the first quarter. Both teams were cold shooting the ball early in the second quarter. A free throw by Beebe was the only point tallied by either team over four minutes of action. Three straight three-point baskets by Madison got them within four at 20-16 a minute later, but that was as close as they would get the rest of the way. Waubonsee took a 32-20 lead into the locker room at halftime and then added to their lead in the third quarter, out scoring the Wolfpack 17-11. The Chiefs led by at least 13 points throughout the final period and grabbed their biggest lead of the game in the final minute, going up by 22 points.

Besides Beebe, who recorded her seventh straight double-double in points and rebounds dating back to last season's finale, Essence Rayford also had a big game. The sophomore point guard tallied 21 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and made four steals. Melia Perry and Tatyanna Smith each scored 10 points, while Katy Shawke added eight points and dished out four assists
