Beebe named NJCAA and Region Player of the Week

(Charlotte, NC.) - Waubonsee Community College's Katie Beebe was named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II and Region IV District L Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of November 18 through 24. The Chiefs' 6'0" power forward scored 50 points, hauled down 64 rebounds and blocked 30 shots over three games, averaging a triple-double in buckets, boards and blocks. Beebe also set a pair of Waubonsee single-game records in the process, eclipsing her own high marks set last season.

Beebe had a triple-double, including a new school-record 13 blocks in a loss at nationally-ranked Rock Valley on Tuesday, November 19, booking 12 points and grabbing 18 rebounds as well. She followed that up two days later with another triple-double, including a new school-record record 25 rebounds in a win over Madison (WI) College. Beebe scored 12 points, blocked 10 shots and handed out 5 assists in the Chiefs' 63-44 win over the Wolfpack. In a win at the College of DuPage this past Saturday, she tallied 26 points and grabbed 21 more rebounds to go with 7 blocked shots.

The sophomore from Oswego High School currently leads all NJCAA Division II players in rebounding and blocked shots. She has snagged 152 boards and is averaging 19.0 per game, both tops in the nation. She also leads the nation with 56 blocked shots in just eight games played, and is averaging 18.9 points per contest.  This is the second time Beebe has been chosen for this national award, earning the same honor in early December last year as a freshman. Among Region IV players Beebe is currently first in defensive rebounds, total rebounds and blocked shots, second in offensive rebounds, tied for third in total points and seventh in points per game.

Behind Beebe and Essence Rayford's 18.6 points-per-game average, the Chiefs are 5-3 on the season thus far. Waubonsee is set to play again next Tuesday, December 3 when they host Milwaukee (WI) Area Technical College beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Waubonsee's Erickson Hall Gymnasium.
