Chiefs struggle offensively, fall at CLC

(Grayslake, IL) – Waubonsee Community College's women's basketball team fell behind in the second quarter and never got going offensively in a 65-45 loss at the College of Lake County. The loss dropped the Chiefs overall record to 9-11 and Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) mark to 1-3.  

Waubonsee took an early 13-6 lead before the Lancers (13-8, 2-2) got on track and closed to within two points (16-14) at the end of first quarter. The Chiefs led 20-16 early in the second period until Lake County went on a 14-0 run to get the upper hand. The Lancers eventually headed to the locker room with a 36-24 halftime lead after limiting Waubonsee to just eight second quarter points. Unfortunately the Chiefs' offensive struggles got worse in the third quarter as Waubonsee managed just seven points while the Lancers extended their lead to 52-31. Lake County then coasted to the win, enjoying a 21-2 advantage in points off turnovers in the game.

Katie Beebe led Waubonsee with 13 points and a dozen rebounds, her 11th double double of the season. Essence Rayford chipped in with 11 points and handed out seven assists, while Riane Tomsa added nine points and hauled down seven boards. For the game the Chiefs shot just 29 percent (18 of 61) from the field, making just 19 percent (5 of 26) from three-point range. Lake County's Kylah Collins, the leading scorer nationally among all NJCAA Division II players entering the game with a 25.7 points-per-game average, led all scorers with 31 points and grabbed a dozen rebounds. Taylor Feltner also booked 22 points and dished out six assists for the Lancers.

The Chiefs are in action again next Tuesday, January 28 when they host Elgin Community College at 5:15 p.m. (CDT) in an ISCC match up.
