Chiefs begin Region 4 Tournament play

--- Waubonsee Community College's women's and men's basketball teams are set to begin play in the 2023 Region 4 Division II Tournament ---

Coach Jim Williams' ladies received the #7 seed and will host #10 Illinois Valley Community College this coming Monday, February 27 in a District A 'play-in' game. The Chiefs (13-17) and Eagles (5-25) are scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 p.m. in Erickson Hall Gymnasium. The winner will advance to a Wednesday evening road match-up at #2 seed Oakton Community College (26-4). Behind double-doubles by Brooke Heiman (34 points and 10 rebounds) and Emily Hurst (19 points and 10 rebounds), Waubonsee pounded Illinois Valley 101-66 in the third game of the season for both teams back on November 10. On the season Heiman is averaging 21.6 point-per-game (ppg) and is just four points away from eclipsing Julianna Wadsworth's program record of 628 points in a single-season set during the 2015-2016 season. 

Coach Lance Robinson's men's squad is the #4 seed and will also host Illinois Valley Community College which received the #5 seed in the District 3 bracket. The Chiefs (22-8) and Eagles (12-18) are set to square off beginning at 7:00 p.m. this coming Thursday, March 2 in Sugar Grove. Waubonsee downed Illinois Valley 82-66 on November 10 in Oglesby as four Chiefs reached double figures in points, led by Joey Niesman's 20 points. The sophomore guard, who tallied 25 points in Waubonsee's 89-83 victory at Morton College on Saturday to go over 1,000 points scored in his Chiefs' career, leads the team in scoring with a 17.5 points-per-game average this season. The winner between the Chiefs and Eagles will move on to play Sunday, March 5 beginning at noon, potentially against top-seeded and fifth-ranked South Suburban College (25-5). The Buldogs are set to play the winner between #9 seeded Oakton Community College (8-21) and #8 seeded McHenry County College (12-18) on Thursday evening as well. All second round and championship contests will be played at Rock Valley College in Rockford.
